New Old Camera

State of the art 2007.

I've had my eye on this make for a long time, waiting to spot a second-hand bargain. And here it is, at £360 – including a surprisingly good 18-70mm f3.5-4.5G ED-IF AF-S DX Zoom Nikkor (not pictured) and spare battery.

My chief interest is in its colour handling, which I'm hoping will prove more pleasing than that of my difficult Nikon D300, especially with warm colour palettes.

It's only really a 6MP camera, but I've come to see more pixels as a nuisance, so this doesn't bother me. And it has a second set of 6MP photosensors which are used to boost dynamic range and promote graceful handling of over-exposure. This gives an amazing ability to recover hilghights in over-exposed photos.

    interesting!

Yes, dynamic range is more important than number of pixels.

You have a found a good deal. I've not seen S5 Pros in reasonable condition being offered below £400 before.

The Pentax K5 has pretty impressive performance in this respect photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=955995

There's speculation that Pentax are reading the data from the sensor twice. Reading a low ISO and high ISO seems to allow you to remove noise due to non sensor electronic components. See section 3d of theory.uchicago.edu/~ejm/pix/20d/tests/noise/index.html

Nice little Camera, what for a Lens is on the Camera, the Nikon 50mm F/1.4G ?

You should pull through the Strap like the Nikon D3x.
It is saver for Your Camera. ;-)

Nice. I too am waiting for the megapixel bubble to burst. Enough of them already.
