Copalis Beach Airport IMG_1794

There are a few challenges to landing at this airport. If you've ever walked on a beach, these will be obvious. If you have never walked on a beach, consider trying that before landing your plane on one.

The challenges:

1. The beach slopes toward the water. This should be obvious enough.

2. People are allowed to walk on the runway. It's primarily a beach, and there may be people, dogs, kites and what have you. They may not be concerned about your wish to land your airplane on their beach.

3. The wet sand is the firmest for landing, but it is also the part that goes underwater at high tide. Hey, I said these were obvious.

Other than that, there's plenty of runway, and wind will be straight down the beach on any day worth flying.
