This photo is technically very poor but for me it represents a surreal moment... a highlight in my visual memoirs of travel pics from '05
Had the light condition not been so bad(I had to digitally brighten it) or if I only had a tripod with me during this encounter... the results could have been different....Sigh
Still, a slight crop and minor PS touch up has transformed this image into a vivid HDR-esque painting like picture. I like this salvaged product!
The story behind the fateful moment >>>>>>
It was my first sight of the Eiffel tower on my first night in Paris during my first trip to Europe....
I had checked into a hostel late evening..unloaded and decided to walk about town to take in some sights... without a map.. I tried to navigate my way to the tower..wandering the streets of Paris...I took a break at a cafe.. just sat on the patio and diligently observed the hustle and bustle...the vivid Paris lifestyle.. Later that night, I was caught in the rain.Stranded outdoors in a horrific storm.. I took shelter from the pouring rain under a rail bridge... 20 odd minutes passed.. the heavy showers faded an the ferocious clouds cleared away .. I was drenched but decided to trek forward ... Trying to follow the rough directions and searching for visual hints... I turned a corner and there it was....... just as I stepped onto this path and caught sight of my destination... my visual senses were delighted by those sparkles(apparently they come on once every hour) which I was witnessing for the first time... As I stood there in awe..my overjoyed senses caught a glimpse of this man walking in the center of the pathway .. he walked forth briskly...eventually disappearing from my sight. I suddenly realized that there was no one else around... no cars on the side streets.. no hoards of tourists... no one..nothing...As if this personal experience was frozen in time just for me.. It was like I had been transformed into another realm.
A stark "calm after the storm" moment as for those few seconds I truly felt like I was the LAST SOUL IN PARIS!
