Scene 3: Coronation of William
Scene 3: Christmas Day 1066
Coronation of William

William is crowned by Ealdred, the Archbishop of York, assisted by Geoffrey of Coutances as translator. William could not speak English. William shows concern, or possibly anger, because he cannot understand the shout of the English when they are asked if they will accept William as king. Thinking it is a call for rebellion on the part of the English, the Normans rush out and devastate Southwark, shown in the lower border.
