Amtrak Floridian, with locomotives from both the Miami and Saint Petersburg sections, is seen coupling baggage cars at Auburndale, Florida, mid 1970's. Actually the stainless steel Santa Fe baggage car from the Saint Petersburg section along with other cars is sitting on a siding to be picked up an added to the outgoing consist two tracks over. There were many switching moves required to build up the Floridian for departure as one train. The switching moves kept the crewmen busy with the constant coupling and uncoupling action required. The train cars are located in a small yard located along the former SAL right-of-way. Along the left side background of the photo you can see the diamond protection block signal next to the former SAL northbound mainline and then the U.S. 92 Highway overpass.
