Railthunder2008 - Thanks for the compliment. Am glad you enjoyed viewing the former modified NP tender that was converted into a steam generator car. It's always great to see equipment in it's original owner's paint scheme.

Question-did the louisville auto train run daily or tri weekly?

    5. alcomike43 53 months ago | reply

CarolinaRailWorks - Thanks for asking the question. auto-train corporation's train service to Louisville was started in 1974, operating on a triweekly schedule. In 1976, the auto-train service was combined with Amtrak's Floridian and continued for approximately one year. At the end of auto-train service, there was only one auto-train weekly round-trip service being operated until the end in 1977. The louisville auto-train serviced suffered from various problems that included long running times due to poor track, non-auto block signal system sections of track, too far a distance from the Chicago area plus other problems. The original auto-train corporation suffered from a couple of serious derailments, operating losses on the Louisville service and other equipment maintenance expense problems, that caused it to finally fold and was shut down in 1981.
