NS northbound ballast train departing Asheville, North Carolina, May 2007

This is a NS northbound ballast train departing the yard in Asheville, North Carolina, May 31, 2007. Lead locomotive # 9491, is a GE product. When the mainline heads north out of Asheville, it follows the banks of the French Broad River and the train will shortly cross over the bridge to the west side of the river to continue on its journey. The ditch lights on this locomotive are really shinning into the camera lens. The train is presently running through an "S" curve at this industrial location that has many old derelict buildings along the right of way. This right of way and mainline were the property of the former Southern Railway.
