Donald Carson fonds
Donald Carson was born in London, England in 1918 and moved with his family to Alberta following the First World War. We worked as a miner in the Albert Coal Branch until the outbreak of the Second World War, when he enlisted in the 3rd Canadian Infantry Division as a combat medic. He landed in Normandy on June 8, 1944 and moved north through France and Belgium. On November 2, 1944 Carson landed on Walcheren Island, the Netherlands, with the 4th Special Service Brigade of British Commandos as part of the Battle of the Scheldt. He was wounded during the battle and eventually returned to Canada before the end of the war. After the war, he worked in the postal service and retired to Edmonton.
