Spring Flowers at the base of Mount Whitney, and Lone Pine Peak
Mount Whitney (to the right) is the highest mountain in the lower 48 States, standing at 14,505 feet (4421m). Lone Pine Peak (to the left) is the seemingly tallest peak in this image. Although the Eastern foothills of Mount Whitney are high desert, there is a short flower season here. This image was taken with a carpet of small low yellow flowers blooming in one of the washes. My guess is that these flowers are Eriophyllus wallacei - or Wallace's Woolly Daisies.
