A board over one of the windows in 639 High Road Tottenham which used to be Haringey's Planning Offices and a Customer Services Centre. Following the Tottenham riot in August 2011 Haringey Council withdrew from the building and sold it to the Greater London Authority (GLA).
The sale of 639 High Road was one of the later stages in the Council scuttling away from Tottenham. Instead the main offices for Council staff are in River Park House in Wood Green.
Haringey Council's future plans for Tottenham are almost entirely based on similar false assumptions and failed schemes originally drawn up by planners about twenty years ago and pointlessly recycled ever since.
An ongoing PR campaign aims to "spin" these stale proposals as something new and fresh. Typically, ambitious politicians from posh parts of the west of Haringey make vague specious promises; and announce probably unrealisable aspirations for change as if these are already on the verge of being achieved.
Meanwhile developers and others bring forward their wish-lists for a compliant Council to rubber-stamp.
