A 'rocking' studio glass bowl by British artist Jane Charles from her first solo exhibition in 1991. Now working in Newcastle upon Tyne in the North East of England.
Title: Reflective Form. Diameter: 24cm
24%lead glass. Blown, sand blast pattern, sloping polished opening. The dark band, a 'signature' of her early works, was made by 'burning' a line around the bowl using a reducing flame. This forms a thin layer of metallic lead in the surface giving a basic black colour and associated interference colours. The band was then scratched with a diamond point.
A macro detail of this area is shown in the previous shot seen here.
