Wedged in the slot - National Canyon - Grand Canyon

This is Andrew Gilmore and Matt Gilmore wedged in the slot just below the big chock in National Canyon. We stopped at National Canyon (RM 166.5) and hiked down the canyon. A couple of us body wedged up above this chock. We were going to work our way a little further, but we had taken a route on the left side. Neal told us the trail went up the right side and he showed us where it was but told us it was time to head back to the rafts.

Sundevilstormin wanted to know what I meant by a "body wedge" move and this is essentially it. There really aren't any foot or hand holds so you brace your feet and back and work your way up the rock face to the next higher level. If there is another canyoneering name for this move, please let me know.

{edit} I guess in Mountaineering & Canyoneering this is sometimes called a chimney move or chimneying. A stem move involves opposite hands & feet on opposite walls{end edit}

I rafted the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon with Arizona Raft Adventures AZRA.

They are holding the walls apart so that I can squeeze through.

Congrats to Matt - he just completed USMC TBS at Quantico. Semper Fi. MOS 0201. I would have picked MOS 1305 because it has party in it. :)
