Beehive Geyser with rainbow - Yellowstone National Park
Beehive Geyser is located in the south section of the Upper Basin, just north of Old Faithful. It's eruptions are unpredictable but is one of the best in Yellowstone. Our timing was lucky today. A small geyser to the southeast of the main cone is Beehive's indicator. It begins erupting around 20 minutes prior to a full eruption of Beehive.
"Eruptions usually occur twice each day with displays lasting 4 - 5 minutes. During an eruption, the narrow cone acts like a nozzle, projecting the water column to heights of 130 - 190 ft." www.nps.gov/archive/yell/tours/oldfaithful/beehive.htm
