Grand Canyon North Rim fire

I watched this forest fire on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon National Park. It was more amazing to hear it. This was actually a Prescribed Burn by the National Park Service to maintain the health of the forest. I had previously called these "Managed Burns" or "Controlled Burns". But watching this inferno made me realize, there is no way to control or manage a fire like this.

This is what it looked like from the other side when we were under the smoke.

Gary Snyder recently had an article in the Sierra Club magazine about the changing wisdom over the last 50 years of Prescribed Burns & healthy forests.
