I first saw this man when I didn't have my camera with me. He was sitting outside the restrooms at the Tollwood festival in Munich with piercing blue eyes and full circus master regalia. I was so disappointed I didn't have my camera with me.
A few nights later, I went back to see if he was still there and luckily he was.
I put a few coins in the jar and asked if I could take his picture. He said nothing, he did not or could not hear me. I was also not sure whether he could see me as he didn't make eye contact with me despite my best efforts. One of the workers yelled across the room to him "Can he take your photograph?" This seemed to be a far more effective volume for the man who, now focused and alert, shifted himself in his chair, looked up at me and said wryly "What do I care, just shoot already".
