Nelchina Caribou Herd
Not too far from my home today - I stood on the edge of the forest looking down on the Nelchina Caribou Herd as it started its long trek to the arctic. It was so silent I could hear their feet as they pounded the earth, and their grunts as they communicated with each other. In this photo you are only seeing a small portion of the herd. It stretched out for quite a distance and of course my camera could only take in so many. It still amazes me that these animals can find their way over hundreds of miles without a navigation aid. And we humans think we are the superior species?? I don't know about that . . . .
(View in light-box and you will think you are standing beside me.)
