Fire Season . . .
This afternoon Doc. and I sat on our porch and watched as several lightning strikes hit a nearby mountain ridge. Squirrels let out loud high pitched warning sounds, and birds dove for cover. Huge black cumulous clouds surrounded us, as thunder boomed over head.
Meanwhile along the Tok Cutoff Road, a forest fire is underway in a land inhabited by abundant wildlife. I think about all of the little moose and caribou calves, that are probably frightened to death as their mothers try to put distance between them and the fire. The temperature's are way above normal, and the countryside is very dry. Unfortunately the forecast is to remain hot and dry for the next week. To be perfectly honest - I am looking forward to the end of summer.
