Governor Bill Walker and Department of Health and Social Services Commissioner Val Davidson give remarks at an Indigenous Peoples' Day celebration at Alaska Pacific University. The event was organized in partnership with the Alaska Native Heritage Center, the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium, and First Alaskans Institute. Governor Walker declared October 8 Indigenous Peoples' Day by proclamation in 2015 and 2016. In 2017, the Alaska Legislature passed legislation to ensure it would be recognized each year.
