I met and pulled shots with the owner of this cafe, the Que Pasa Calabaza Mexicano, at the So Cal Barista Jam held at Caffe Calabria. After finding out he had a shop in Puerto Nuevo, I promised that I would drop in during our planned Mexican food crawl.
I asked for a double ristretto, to which I didn't even have to explain what it was. I was pleased when I saw the barista throw out the first shot after looking at the pour.
It was served in a nice, pre-heated ceramic Pasquini demitasse, with a decent but not full head of crema. The taste was good, definitely competent, with a long and pleasing after taste.
This one shot is already far better than what one could ever hope to get at your typical cafe in the States, including (if not especially) the big national chains.
