Rex Bellorum in the Morning Light
"Bello" is the Spanish word for "handsome", which I think is doubly appropriate for him: in addition to being (in my unashamedly biased opinion) a strikingly handsome horse, Bello's sire was an Andalusian, a Spanish breed originally developed for the battlefield and for mounted bull fighting.
"Bello" is also a natural contraction of his formal name, "Rex Bellorum", which reflects his having been bred to the standards of a baroque warhorse.
This photograph was taken by Wendy Webb at a training clinic in Uxbridge, Ontario. Bello is developing well, and I hope that he will eventually join me competing for Canada in the altogether eccentric equestrian sport of Tent Pegging.
