Me and the Russians watch for Perseids

That little streak in the left side of the picture to the right of the clouds is one of two Perseids I saw and the only one I captured. I brightened it slightly in Photoshop otherwise it looked like a ..well .. it is a little white line among the stars.

The people behind me were a Russian family who oooed and awed with each little streak. I was mostly inside my Mazda watching shows and killing mosquitos.

This is a 30 second exposure at ISO 400 and f/5.6 on my Sigma 10-20mm. It was taken on the road to Iona Beach park, just outside YVR (Vancouver International).

I used a noise reduction (dark) frame as well.

Thanks for the comments. It showed up in Explore. I'm sure a lot of other meteor shots got on too. People are interested!

Even without the meteor, this is a cool photograph. It gives a good sense of just how far away those stars are. Nice work.

Thanks Kyle. The only thing I remembered compositionally when I went out there was to find the most interesting foreground. When the Russians showed up initially I cursed because of their headlights but then I realized it would make an interesting element.

acp- YOU MADE THE RIGHT DECISION IMHO--the foreground car lights create such hight visual interest- also gives it a bit of dream like quality i think.

I was watching a slideshow of photos tagged "perseids," sorted by "Interestingness" when this one stopped me. I was hoping to see an even larger version.
What makes this really good and, actually, quite interesting, is that you have humans and their stuff as well as the sky. I feel like I'm in the grass taking the photo myself..listening to what you've described and enjoying the show.
