44/4 anonymous 20 As, Mars Eagle, AM#0965-14, 10mm, 1g36
20 As. 214-210BC. 1.36grams. Rome mint. Anonymous. Crawford 044/04 Anonymous. Obverse: hd Mars r, XX. Reverse: eagle thunderbolt, ROMA. Rare.
Much smaller 20 As coin, but strangely more artisticly engraved than the adjacent 60 As. The two dots in the centre represent the actual size of this tiny coin when viewed in 1200x600 original size. The engraving is thus far finer than the size of pixels on a computer screen, truly astounding considering the lack of magnification or other aids. This coin is slightly heavier than the norm at 1.36 grams rather than 1.12 grams. The rarer 20 As coins more often show signs of wear (as this coin does) as they circulated rather than being saved.
