HN Italy-415 #0857-38 Social War Italia left Eight soldiers boy pig oath scene Denarius

Denarius. 90BC. 3.76grams. Italy central mint. **. Rutter HNI IT/415 Social War. Obverse: hd Italia l. Reverse: oath scene, 8 warriors, boy and pig, standard, IIIX. Scarce. Social war coin, from about 90BC. Silver denarius. The eight soldiers on the reverse, watching a sacrifice scene (youth with a cute little pig) represent the confederate (Italian) tribes of the Marsic Confederation. This was probably struck at Samnium. Many of the types of these coins figuratively represent the war against Rome. This coin is discussed on andrewmccabe.ancients.info/Coins_History.htmland also on andrewmccabe.ancients.info/Auctions.html
