High Dynamic Time Range image of San Francisco, March 5, 2008

 

4:48 pm on the left, and 6:49 pm on the right. Each vertical strip is a 1 minute interval.

 

This image is an outgrowth of my Intervalography project. I first noticed this technique at Martin Krzywinski's web site.

 

After posting Intervalography: An Evening of Poetry, jalbersmead also thought to do this, and touchingthelight has seen something similar in London. Thanks for pushing me!

 

So here it is.

 

I would usually try to determine the width of each strip in order to preserve the entire scene. However, after making 5 of these (sometimes by varying the width of each strip by only 1 or 2 pixels), I chose this one to present because it records Market Street with such interesting light. Within those parameters I am unable to show further to the right because that represents time when I was not there taking photos!
