Workers Memorial Day 2015
AFSCME members in state-run mental-health facilities – fed up with taking a beating from violent patients – escalated their campaign for safe jobs on Workers Memorial Day.

Hundreds of DHS members demonstrated in Anoka, St. Peter, Willmar, Brainerd, Duluth, and Moose Lake. Most wore colored bandages as a symbol of the number of injuries in their workplaces.

Many carried signs that included photos of the battered face of Renetta Engelson. Engelson, a former member of Local 404 at the Minnesota Security Hospital in St. Peter, no longer can work because of injuries she received after being beaten by a patient.
