Day on the Hill 2014
More than 1,000 Council 5 members and retirees made themselves impossible to ignore during Day on the Hill March 25 as they took our fight for all workers to the Capitol.
After a revved-up rally in the Rotunda, more than 100 of them packed a hearing room to continue pushing a House-Senate conference committee to raise the state’s minimum wage to $9.50, then raise it automatically each year to keep up with inflation.
Hundreds of others spread around the Capitol and State Office Building to lobby their legislators. The message: This is the time to increase opportunities for a better future for all Minnesotans.
In addition to raising the wage for low-wage workers, members urged support for a comprehensive, sustainable transportation plan for the 21st century, protecting taxpayers by providing accountability anytime elected officials try to outsource public services, expanding the state’s commitment to early childhood education, and living up to the promise of secure pensions for retirees.
