Day on the Hill 2013
More than 1,000 AFSCME members and retirees filled the offices of legislators during Day on the Hill Feb. 26 so officials could hear directly from the people who elected them. Members urged legislators to help grow the middle class by beginning to restore the $5.1 billion in cuts that have taken place in the state budget. Priorities include:
• Supporting Gov. Dayton’s budget, which raises revenue fairly and finally fixes the deficit without gimmicks.
• Raising revenue by closing loopholes, making sure corporations and the richest 2 percent pay their share, and reforming the state sales tax system
• Stopping the layoffs by adequately funding agencies, providing a salary supplement, and increasing state aid to cities, counties, and higher education
• Investing in transportation infrastructure
• Giving child-care providers collective bargaining rights.
