AFSCME at the State Fair 2011
More than 80 AFSCME volunteers -- some sporting millionaire costumes -- staffed Council 5’s kiosk during the 12 days of the Minnesota State Fair. They handed out Tax the Rich buttons, distributed cards showing who actually pays what in state and local taxes, and asked fairgoers if they’re tired of paying more so the rich can pay less.
Then, using fake money, they asked visitors to choose -- would they use revenue to protect Minnesota or to protect millionaires. Only about 100 fairgoers voted to keep protecting millionaires. More than 2,900 voted to protect Minnesota and the vital services that people need to prosper.
