Wolcott Gibbs wrote a short story, "Cure," about just such an occasion as this:

"'It's only the stewards,' whispered Mrs. Graves, feeling her husband stiffen beside her as the fiery march approached. 'They've got electric lights in their hats. Like the ice cream'"

John FitzGerald Interesting! Perhaps he was inspired to write his short story after witnessing a scene like this! 8-)

Just found a shipping type info, for one of my ancestor's and her hubby, travelling first class in 1951, on the Queen Elizabeth. They were headed to New York, where her hubby worked in the shipping business. How exciting it must've been. Who knows who's famous shoulders they rubbed with.

valpage32 Thanks, it is great fun to find documents like that and to consider where family members traveled and who they may have met. Seeing photos like this--even with the funny little hats!--can help to visualize what their trip on the Queen Elizabeth might have been like.
