Chintan was founded in 1999 to address issues of sustainable consumption and environmental and social justice. Chintan promotes strategies that secure environmental and social justice in a rapidly transforming India. Chintan believes that it is increasingly critical to work directly with the poor and marginal communities in India (e.g. waste pickers or “Waste Recyclers”) and form new kinds of partnerships to move us closer to a vision of an environmentally and socially just world. Chintan uses a grassroots approach that informs all of their work, right up to advocating for better policy at the state and central level.
