Hot stuff!

If you fancy a print of this one, you might find this link of interest!

There are sometimes special offers available from Imagekind; so if you're interested in buying a print, drop me a Flickr message and hopefully I'll be able to find you a discount code!

Yes, this is molten lava.. The main photographic challenge is to avoid accidentally cooking yourself ;)

Unfortunately by the time I managed to walk out to the lava flow the light was failing, so I couldn't take as long over the composition as I might have liked... Still I think the shot was worth melting a pair of shoes for!

There are three main types of lava, pahoehoe, pillow lava and a'a. This is the slower moving pahoehoe type. The lava itself consists of molten basalt at roughly 2000°F (~1100°C).

This lava forms part of the Kalapana Lava Flow on Hawai'i, and has erupted from nearby Mt Kilauea. Kilauea is home to the Hawai'ian volcanoe goddess Pele.

Tech: Fuji Provia 100F, Canon EOS30/Elan7e, Canon EF 28-135 IS USM.
