I don't have many photos which fits to the theme fishing. Your photo is really great. My father is a fisherman and he would be happy to catch such a big one.

To all you that keep saying they bite: WRONG.

I fish for pike on a regular basis and every single one of them goes back in the water alive. I have never been bit once and pike don't bite for the sake of it. 95% of pike 'bites' are down to miss handling of the pike and the angler brushing fingers against the teeth or gill rakers.

So many people are ill informed regards the pike. Yes, they are top predator in freshwater but DO NOT EAT ANYTHING THAT MOVES.

The common misconception about pike probably brings about the fear and loathing that people have with them.

Pike are a probably one of the most delicate of fish ever once they are out of water. They fight very hard against the angler and get a build up of lactic acid in their muscles which leaves them totally knackered when on the bank or in the boat. Then anglers take far too long to unhook the fish which can damn near kill it. Just try holding your head under water for 10 minutes and you'll know how the pike feels when out of the water.

And it's no good just tossing it into the water as soon as you have unhooked it. It needs to be supported and help regain itself before actually being released. If not it may swim away into the depths only to float back up dead a while later.

I would urge all people who are interested in fishing for pike to invest in proper strong tackle, always use a wire trace and to read, read and read some more on how to properly and safely fish for them and how to handle them when out of the water.

Wow! I never knew you could flyfish for them. Where I lived in Montana everyone used some sort of live bait to catch them, usually a small yellow perch. We caught them in the slow sections of the river. Very interesting...
