Illuminated Escalator - Seattle Library
On a cold, overcast yet dry Sunday we had a nice walk through Seattle. One of the most fascinating places we've seen that day was the Seattle Central Library.
The 11-story high glass and steel building in downtown Seattle, Washington was opened to the public in 2004. Rem Koolhaas was the principal architect. The library has a unique, striking appearance, consisting of several discrete "floating platforms" seemingly wrapped in a large steel net around glass skin. Architectural tours of the building began on June 5, 2006. As you might imagine the opinion of architectural critics and the general public has been mixed.
When I saw the illuminated escalators I thought about sediama and her colourful staircases (and occasional escalators) and thought I'd give it a try. I hope you like it.
