This CDV and the the one immediately after it in my photostream are the only two that I have that I know are Canadian and have yet to upload, so when I heard it was Canada Day, I thought I ought to try to get them in under the wire in honor of the two lovely ladies that they depict. Over the past hundred-odd years they both found their way down to a San Diego antique and then into my collection. But, they both started out in West Winchester, Ontario where both ladies, presumably relatives as their portraits traveled together for so many years and are labeled on the reverse in the same hand (and with the same blue ink), very likely lived.
Alice's portrait was taken by J. W. Pike., the reverse of whose cardstock is the only reason that I recognized the two cdvs as Canadian. For some reason, the other photographer omitted "Ontario" from his stated location and, when I first saw the name "West Winchester" I just assumed that it was in England. But,, luckily, J.W Pike set me straight and both this lovely lady and her relative, Carrie McPhereson get their moment in the sun on their country's birthday.
ps: I might have found her here records.ancestry.com/Alice_Dixon_records.ashx?pid=81855014 but, given how common her name is, there's no guarantee that it's actually her.
