Dot's flickr Debut
Dot the Cat joined our household on Friday, April 4.
We adopted Dot (the cat formerly known as Hilda) from McPaws, a non-euthanizing animal shelter in McCall, Idaho. We visit McPaws at least once a month just to keep the cats there company for a while.
Dot arrived at McPaws as a stray in September, 2007. When we'd make our monthly visits, Dot was always there. Eventually Frank developed a soft spot for Dot. By January, we were feeling sorry for her because no one had taken her home. In February, we decided we'd adopt her if she was still there in March.
So here she is!
Dot is proving to be a sweet kitty, a little shy, but by no means a fraidy-cat. She has a limitless capacity for being petted. Dot's dividing her time between the living areas of the house, the top of an armoire, and that wonderful place called Under the Bed.
Lucy, the resident cat, hasn't exactly rolled out the welcome mat. In fact, she's being a regular dragon. Who knew Lucy had such a wide repetoire of hisses and snarls! Dot doesn't seem to be cowed by it, though, and I think Lucy will come around. In the meantime, it's to Dot's advantage that all Lucy really does is sleep. Plus, Dot is very agile and can jump like a grasshopper, while Lucy is pretty much earthbound.
"Hilda" was the kitty's shelter name. After a week, we decided she isn't a Hilda, so she became Dot, after a brief experiment with "Kitty."
