The best hotel lobby in all of Walt Disney World

In my opinion, there is no better hotel lobby than the Wilderness Lodge. Not only is it great to photograph, but sitting here and listening to the great background music is a great way to relax. To be able to really capture the lobby in a photo though, I think you need to use a fisheye lens. I tried this same shot with my UWA and it just did not capture it as well.

Scott Thomas made mention on the last Wilderness Lodge shot I posted about the white balance. It is definitely difficult getting a correct white balance in this lobby. That is why you should (and I always do) shoot in RAW and not JPEG. I don't even worry about the white balance until I start processing in Lightroom. Then it is very easy to correct it and carry that over to all your other shots from the same location.

Have a great weekend.

Agreed Adam. It's a beautiful space and you did a great job capturing it.

Second only to the Animal Kingdom Lodge lobby ;)

Actually, both are equally impressive. The WL was my favorite Disney Resort until I stayed at AKL. Now every trip is a toss up between the two (though Boma usually gives AKL the edge).

Shooting either of these lobbies is a mess of reds when it comes to WB. I'm curious to hear how you work the shots in post , as I can never seem to find a white balance that I'm happy with.

I think you nailed that awe inspiring feeling you get when you walk into the lobby though. This just looks phenomenal, and the guy sitting in the chair in the foreground looking up really sells the feeling even more.

Fantastic shot! I agree with Alan Rappa. It's a toss up between AKL/Jambo and WL.

Alan Rappa I was not that taken with Animal Kingdom Lodge when I visited. Though maybe if I stayed there I would feel different.

Adam Hansen We'll have to test that theory then and see. Thing is, my last few trips I've stayed at the Kidani Village part of AKL and it's not quite the same as Jambo House.

It's incredible, don't get me wrong - but you miss that giant, grand lobby and that WOWZERS feeling when you walk in.

I'll throw in my vote for the Wilderness Lodge! My second favorite place to be in all of the resorts after the Polynesian beach. Great capture with the fisheye!

While I'd like to agree, I'm much more fond of the Animal Kingdom main lobby! While it has almost the same general look and feel, those monster windows in the rear really illuminate the overall lobby and the hardwood. So hard to shoot just as the Wilderness Lodge is though! Regardless, love the WL and the fisheye seems to be the ONLY lens to consider using in some of these lobbies! Great shot, Adam!

Alan Rappa Maybe if we do that trip again next March, I'll plan on starting at AKL this time :)

Fantastic execution and presentation! This is WDW marketing material worthy!
  • Ben PRO 3y

Now, I don't agree that it's the best lobby in all of Disney, but this is a fantastic shot of ONE of the best! Love being able to see all the details!
  • Adam Hansen 3y

Ben What do you think is the best lobby then?
  • Greg Stevenson PRO 3y

Pop Century blows them all away...on my budget.
  • Adam Hansen 3y

Greg Stevenson LOL Luckyily they don't charge to visit the other hotels :) Some of them (like the Wilderness Lodge) are worth stopping by to see and photograph.
  • Susie 3y

I totally agree with you on that! I love sitting in that lobby. It's beautiful.

    Grand shot!

Nice tip on shooting RAW too!

i love that guy in the chair

WL is my favorite WDW resort even though I've never stay a night!
  • Peter Lee PRO 3y

Marvelous capture! I love the symmetry and sense of scale. Definitely one of my favorite lobbies at WDW, though as others have said I think it's a toss-up with AKL for me.
  • Scott Thomas PRO 3y

RAW? What's that? :-> I know, I know...I did shoot RAW for my Dark Ride photos on my last trip. Will plan on doing so again for WL and a few other locations. Interestingly, AKL did not pose the same WB issue.
  • Jeff Kyle 3y

WB is so variable around the Disney parks that RAW is a necessity IMHO... especially in indoor/night shots, where WB is more a matter of choice than an absolutely "correct" choice.

I wouldn't argue against AKL, but there's others to consider... Grand Floridian, with its new marble floors, would be a strong contender. If you stretch the definition of "lobby" to include "fourth floor" then the Contemporary would have to be in the running, too! How can you mean monorails passing through?

Back to AKL - I actually found that I really enjoyed the Kidani lobby; it's much more intimate than Jambo house's, and less "hey, look at how cool I am". Interestingly, I'm going to be down there solo for a few days in October and AKL and SSR were the only DVC properties with any availability. AKL is also often the lowest-points resort. (So I'll be staying there!) I think a lot of guests tend to shun it since it's so far away from most of the action, but it really is lovely.
