Is this the same as a kestrel?
Seen on your photo stream. ( ?² )

    Thanks everyone... :)
June: Well, they both have feathers, wings, talons.. lol.
The Kestrel is smaller, has more colors (well, I guess that would also depend on which Kestrel), and I think it is related to falcons.

Awesome. I guess the snail kites have returned....
Hey, once the time changes, the after work shooting opportunities will be limited. Got to work some in before then.

YAY!! They are back. I agree with Debbie. We have to do after work shooting now while we can!! Great shot, Alan. Nice colors to this bird!

    Debbie & Annette:
It's not that they really left.. They've been perching along St Rd-7 since they dredged the waterways along the trail.
I always see them perched along the road; but as far as flying, the last couple of times I've only seen them flying West across the water cells in the preserve from St Rd 7 to the open Everglades just before sunset.

They are not flying along the trails as they did earlier this year.

They dredged the waterways along the trail? Any idea why?

    Good catch!
  • ac4photos. 6y

    Ashleigh :
Yep, they dredged a couple of months ago (along the East side of the main North-South Marsh Trail).
They did get rid of a lot of overgrowth, and there have been more birds in that area... and you can actually see down the embankment in most areas now. There was some trash they was taken out as a result, but I don't think there was much trash to begin with.
