meebo on my active desktop

I can't imagine I'm the first person to do this, but it's kind of a neat idea. I think it'd be even neater on a mac, because having maximized application windows is the exception rather than the rule, making it easier to see your desktop.

Since when did maximized application windows become the rule in windows?

Not to mention that there is basically no way to do active desktop on a mac.

Clearly I need to rethink my Windows usage strategy. Does anyone out there know of any third-party programs that will allow this functionality on a Mac? I saw this Macworld article that shows you how to put a screensaver on your desktop, so I can't imagine it's totally impossible.
