Baron Hill
The Bulkley family moved to Anglesey from their ancient home in Cheshire, sometime prior to1450. From 1618 Baron Hill was the Beaumaris home of the Bulkley family; the mansion being built by third knight Richard Bulkley, so that the family could move from their previous residence at Hen Blas in the town centre.
I read somewhere that Baron Hill was abandoned by the Williams Bulkley family because of the double death duties that were incurred during the First World War by the deaths of his father and older brother meant that Sir Richard could not afford the upkeep. During the Second World War it was used by the Royal Engineers who were stationed there. The mansion was damaged by fire at this time, and its’ fate was sealed when the lead roof was stolen, allowing the weather and nature to take its’ toll.
