Sig. Usignolo mi ha detto che sarei una madre cattiva

(Gli stereotipi della moderna donna italiana)

Or, the stereotype of a modern Italian woman.

I've been waiting to shoot this photo for a very long time and finally had the chance to do it today! I had a general idea of what I wanted to do, and even if this isn't entirely it I'm rather pleased with how it turned out (even if this picture is missing at least one cat). The main motivation here was to have fun, not provoke or offend, and to make something endearing. I mean, I am Italian after all...

I think I took bits and pieces from how I see Italian women portrayed in the media (both Italian and American media) and from other Italian women I've either observed or encountered. It's not even just about young women! Clearly I left a lot out, and perhaps one would disagree, but this is what I've seen. And of course I tried to make it sultry...I'm no Monica Bellucci, but I can be vain about things like my eyebrows (though I never wear this much makeup). I can't say I embody all the stereotypes, but there are several I possess!

And I don't smoke! I don't care to take the time to preach about the evils of smoking, but cigarettes tend to look mighty cool in pictures, no? I aspire to never puff a cigarette and feel no temptation to do so, but the smell of cigarettes is so common back in Italy that I have to admit I'm guilty of taking one sniff of the smoke as I pass by for nostalgic purposes before I plug my nose and move on.

P.S. This has nothing to do with Jersey Shore, I'm no guidette.
