Atttack of the Red Wing Blackbird...

This is a red wing blackbird attacking a mature male red tail hawk. These attacks are simply distractions by the blackbirds to keep the hawk away from their nesting sites which tend to be low to the ground. Instead of continuing to look for prey, these "distractions" generally move the hawk away from the blackbird's nest. The blackbirds are fearless in harassing these hawks often actually landing on the back of the hawk to deliver strategic pecks to the back of the head...
