A wok filled with black gravel to roast chestnuts in Beijing, China...

A large wok filled with black gravel for roasting sweetened chestnuts known as sugar stir-fried chestnuts (糖炒栗子) in the Haidian District of Beijing, China - chestnuts are constantly stirred in the gravel to distribute the heat evenly. Often a machine is used to stir the chestnuts, making mechanical chestnut roasters a common sight around the city.
