Behind the Bridge of Sighs

As condemned prisoners crossed the infamous Bridge of Sighs they had two last views of Venice. To their right, the beckoning waters of the Laguna Veneta, and to their left, the above.

 

If you could step into this photo a few meters to your left would be the Piazza San Marco, and if you turned to look behind you would see the Bridge of Sighs arched high above the Rio di Palazzo.
