Shooting the Portland riverfront at night was a cool experience. The river was super smooth that night, making some great reflections of the tall buildings and all of those fantastic bridges.
But the sky was also begging to join the photography party, hanging low clouds that were moving with the wind that seemed unable to move the silky water. We found ourselves on a dock on the Eastside that featured unusually tall pilings, which I found interesting. I attempted to compose a straight up shot that would be wide enough to capture them and pickup some streaking clouds, maybe the big dipper. Instead, I caught one of the meteoroids that we had heard about being a possibility that night.
I got lucky. Real lucky. It was an amazing sight to witness with my eyes, I'm very pleased I was fortunate enough to see it on my LCD screen. It was the longest wait ever to see the results on that little screen, not knowing if what I had seen streaking across the night sky had, in fact, managed to find its way into my comp.
