and it rained all night
I haven't shot something like this in awhile. But it was one of those things where I drove by this spot, turned around, drove by it again, and decided I had to stop. Even if it was raining out, and all I had to protect my camera was this umbrella. I normally try to shoot these as quick as possible because you don't want to be hanging around one area for too long, and you don't want to have to stand in the middle of the street more than is necessary...but I was even more rushed this time.
Anyways, i'm always drawn to these scenes because of the mysterious mood created by the steam and the intense light and shadow at night. Earlier this night I was shooting more time-lapses from a parking garage on the level just below the roof level so I was protected from the rain. Anyways, I got into the elevator with a group of 6 that had just gotten out of the Tigers game. One of the guys jokingly said "here comes the serial killer" and "tell us what's in the backpack". Looking back on it, I guess I do look suspicious with my hood up, backpack, and tripod in one hand. I always think it's better to look more suspicious when you're shooting by yourself at night, except with security guards around...
