Every night, a man named Xiao Xin sets up his grill less than a block from my dorm to serve a Chinese street-food favorite known as chuan (串) that is essentially kabobs with a single type of food on each skewer. Priced at about 15 cents for a single stick, knowing my buddy Chuan Guy is going to be there has gotten me through countless late night study sessions and nights on the town than I can't even count. Even with the language barrier, I'd consider him a friend and he even helps me practice from time to time.
