Fish Sausage

When I was a kid I was at an outdoor festival in Japan and I saw corn dogs for sale!!! I couldn't believe my luck -- real, honest to goodness deep fried corn dogs. I bought two, covered them in ketchup and mustard, and bit into some wonderful food from the American heartland.

Except it wasn't. The weiners inside the corn batter was actually fish sausage -- yes, processed fish paste shaped into frankfurter shapes. And the mustard was actually some yellow wasabi flavored concoction. At least the ketchup was real tomato ketchup.

Trying this thing and expecting something very different was a shock to my system. it's taste and texture is basically like kamaboko, which I like.

I haven't had fish sausage since that day in 1980. I might like it better now.
