Crash during Panda Portrait attempt

    Newer Older

I was reaching down for my camera to take a Panda Portrait (a self portrait while cycling) when I hit a deep sand trap and bit the dust. Literally: I had a mouth full of fine sand after this crash.

Unmaintained portion of Conference Road in Santa Cruz County between Felton and Scotts Valley.

Sand *everywhere* and only a slightly skinned knee -- but all is well!

With all the comments on this photo, maybe I should crash more often! :-) THanks, all.

The camera was in a cargo pocket in my pants. I reached down, hit the sand, the bike stopped, I kept going.

We all know the risks . . . great shot though!

Oh -- and why not post it to the Panda Portraits pool? You've suffered for that shot!

Hope you're okay, but you DID take a really great photo. The arys of sunlight catching the dust makes a really cool effect.

Cool shot!! Great you managed to still pick up the camera before the dust had settled!

@Aristocrat: Disclosure: After I gathered my wits I kicked the dust up to recreate the look right after the crash.
