Site of Peveril Castle

The ruins of Peveril Castle stand above the village of Castleton in Derbyshire. It bears the name of William Peveril who is thought to be an illegitimate son of William 1st.

The castle fell into disuse after Tudor times and by the 17th century only the Keep was being used as a courthouse. After this was discontinued the castle became a ruin.
