Stereotypes Suck - ComFest 2005
I really wish my Comfest experience of last year (2008) wasn't so rainy and dismal. I'm afraid to take (lug!) my camera out in hot sticky weather...and then it rained. GAK! Then it got dark. I know, no excuse, could have went earlier, could have picked a different day. This shot, however, is from 2005. The first year I went, and I went on an "assignment" to get as many model releases and take as many pictures as possible. It was a great success. I do prefer a blend of shoot-first and ask for permission, although I am learning about some of the rules of engagement in public, my rights as a photographer, and their rights as subjects. :)
Slowly transferring pieces over from deviantART, this image was taken back in 2005.

Okay, so here's this really big, muscular guy. He has no hair on his head, looking kinda mean with a BIG tattoo on his arm. Was I nervous? Yes! Was that a part of our culture teaching us to fear things that are different from us? Uh, yeah!
Overcame the fear, got a bunch of great shots of this guy. We talked for about 15 minutes, but I felt like we could have talked a lot longer! Onto the next person...rush-rush-rush. On-assignment! :)
